Has anyone thought about the MSD DIS Stacker 8 ignition? Not sure if it would be worth the $, how good is the factory ignition setup?

I think you need like 2 tach adapters with that also. It gets pretty expensive for little gain in performance. I think thats something you'd wanna do last

I've used MSD DIS 4 with tach adapters on older 98 model 4V car. Howeve, stock ignition was good up to 400 or so RWHP. I'm not aware of MSD product for our cars.

However, I also can't imagine the need for aftermarket ignition on our cars either.

How does this work with the "coil on plug" setup in our cars? Do you get eight new coil units?

The March 03 issue of Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine has an article on installing the MSD Stacker 8 on a '99 Cobra. That engine does have coil on plug ignition but uses different cylinder heads than our Mach's, so the results may not be similar.

The unit is spliced into the coil trigger wire for each individual cylinder and retains the stock coils. It causes multiple firing of each spark plug instead of just a single fire per power stroke.

On the '99 Cobra peak hp increase was only 2.8, but at lower rpm's the gains were stronger. Maximum gain was 14hp at 4750 rpm, which really helped fill the soft part of that motors power curve. Our motors already have a much fatter (better) power curve than the '99 Cobra so it's hard to say if the stacker will do the same for us.

I use a JBA Plasma ignition booster on my car. It also connects to each coil trigger wire and increases spark duration. So instead of causing short duration multiple sparks it employs a single BIG BANG principle. JBA claims the net gains from either box are about the same (10hp), with the JBA unit being less expensive at $299. I have not done a before and after dyno but I did notice the engine seemed to have a little more edge to it, along with sharper throttle response.

Hope that helps you...............Kid Mach
