I know we've discussed the gas mileage of the mach before, but my question is this: for those of you who manage to get WELL above 200 m per tank, how are you doing this? when do you shift etc.? I can only squeeze out around 200, but i've seen some people report around 260. just wondering. thanks!

I don't understand what the deal is with this car and gas mileage. I can't speak for anyone but myself but I did not buy the Mach 1 with good gas mileage as a consideration.

Do I like paying what we are paying for gas....no, not really but....it is what it is. If I wanted a car that got 40 MPG I would have bought something else. Furthermore, I bought the car for the performance and refuse to go around shifting at 2 grand just to get an extra MPG or two out of it.

Just my .02 for what its worth.

Understand, sorry if I came across harsh.

Myself, I'm thinking about getting a couple of F-16 370 gallon external fuel tanks from the flight line.....at least time between fill ups would be a while. :D

I just shift at low points in the rpm guage around 2000....

I cruise at speed limits when the traffic is heavy

I bumped the tire pressure a little higher then factory ( 34 psi's)

Use of a K&N filter.

Just filled my gas tank for first time since I brought it home on 2/20 (bear in mind that our weather has sucked since I brought it home!!). I had 234 miles on odometer and put in 12.971 gallons. 18 mpg is not bad considering some of the rides I've given friends & family, and really stood on it!! Man I love this car!!

I was surprised to get over 260 out of a tank of gas, but hey, I'll take it. I too, like others, have been shifting toward the low end of stick. Not that I'm worrying about the gas usage so much, it's just I really don't find the need to RACE around town all the time. Mine is a daily driver and I tote a 4 and 6 yr. old around and I'm not going to put them in harm's way so I can experience some fun for a few seconds. However, just knowing that the power is available at any given moment, is a great feeling. When the kids aren't in the car and prey is to be found, the Dark Shadow Grey Mach will gladly let the horses run free.

Im not concerned about the gas fees as you can tell. Having too much fun with the mach 1. :D :D :D :D cant get enough of my mach 1. april zavela the vettelady.

I'm getting about 19.5 mpg and around 250 miles per tank. I have a Auto and drive 50 RT each day... 65mph going to work and 25mph going home. I'm more than pleased with 19+ mpg.

Ok, I am really not trying to flame anyone, but I've been working on the gas milage numbers and nothing seems to pan out.

If someone would get 250 miles out of a full tank (15.7 gal.)that would mean they are getting some where around 15.92 miles to the gallon. {250 div. by 15.7=15.92}. If someone would get 19 miles to the gallon that means they should get 298 miles to a tank full.{19 times 15.7=298}. I understand that no one runs thier car to the last drop, but even if you make the numbers by 15, it still means about the same thing. {250 div. by 15=16.6, and 19 times 15=285}.
I realized I was having problems with my numbers, becuase I calculated my best city driving and my best highway driving and I came with different numbers that the rest of you.

City I went 265 div. by 15=17;6 mpg.
Highway I did 380 div. by 15= 25.3 mpg. Am I doing something wrong with the math?

i fill up the tank on my mach 1 and run it down to the big red e. then i fill it up and run it down again. when i do fill it up i am putting anywhere from 13 to 13.5 gallons in the tank.
with this in mind i am getting about 220 miles per tank in mostly city driving. i try to stay off the gas but it cant be done. if i am not shifting at over 4 grand im not having any fun.:D
220/13.5 = 16.3 mpg
220/13 = 16.9 mpg

i got between 22-25 mpg on a recent roadtrip. very pleased, played with z06 and a couple porsche turbo on that trip.

regardless of the milage keep that pedal to the metal and mach on.

oh yea the mach 1 is not my daily driver.

I am getting about 16-17 mpg. I live in what to me is the city, stop lights every quarter mile or so. Some weeks I do better making the lights and can get 18. I shift at about 2700-3000 rpm. No reason for this, thats just the way I drive. I'm probally giving the Mach1 a bad rep, but I just hate driving my car hard, what ever I happen to own at the time.

The first time I filled the tank was with 92 octane (hey, it's what the station had available as premium -- I still felt bad putting it in the tank) -- I got about 17 mpg. Since then I've been putting in 94 octane (I found a station that sells 95, but it's clear across town and I can't bring myself to go all that way just for gas  ) and my mileage has improved to about 19 mpg. My driving has been the same: I tend to accelerate faster than most, and shift at higher RPMs (especially 1st to 2nd), and if I'm doing less than 75 on the highway it's because I can't get around the cars in front of me. :D

I can only assume it's the better gas...

I get between 200 and 240 on a tank - depends on how many times I get my foot in it :D most of my work miles are highway, but sometimes that's more stop and go than hitting every red light if I take a different route. Also have a K&N filter...and I only get gas at Texaco. If I get the "cheaper" gas (at RaceTrak or SpeedWay) I never get as many miles out of a tank. So I don't look for the cheapest gas...
