I have signed a buy order for a shadow grey Mach 1. The dealer is a 'Performance Specialist' in that they sell a lot of Saleens and Cobras. They also have a chassis dyno and will do performance mods while still honoring the warranty.
They have a package containing a Diablo chip, new MAF, new Throttle Body, and a K&N In-Fender kit for the Mach 1. I asked them for the before and after specifications on the TB and MAF. They said the Mach 1 comes from the factory with a twin 57mm Throttle Body which they replace with a twin 70mm Throttle Body, a 66mm Mass Air which they replace with an 80mm MAF; all Ford parts.
I have a Cobra owner that is building an American Iron racer who says that he has never heard of a twin 70mm TB by Ford. The only 70mm Ford TB he is aware of for the 4V 4.6 engine is the single port oval 70mm from the 2000 Cobra R. He also tells me a larger twing TB tends to fall on it's face during the horsepower curve.
Dealer is claiming a 35 to 45 BHP gain with the complete package, and is $1,400 parts and labor. Price is in line with some of the local Mustang performance shops, but I am now concerned about the facts.
Does anyone know for a fact that Ford makes a twin 70mm TB for the 4V 4.6? Am also curious to find out if the factory specifications given to me by the dealer are correct.
"Trust but Verify"
Any and all responses will be much appreciated.
