What HP can our fuel pump and/or injectors handle? I'm looking at getting some head and intake porting and was wondering if my system was up to the task. Thanks!

350 is what I've read around here.

D@mn, i hope not. If you figure my dyno #'s right now with 15% loss thru drivetrain i'm about 370hp. If so i'm in trouble.:(

LOL...at the rear wheels. It isn't gospel though so let some more people respond. And it is probably SAE adjusted not STD.

Don't worry - stock fuel system can handle close to 500 HP flywheel. Plenty of people runnning 125 shot NOS using the stock fuel system with no upgrades. NOS does take it's fuel from your stock fuel system. To make that much without NOS would need need a fuel pump upgrade and larger injectors.

OrangeCrush is making about 450hp on stock system with NOS. He has gone 11.60s in the quarter.

Well with 325RWHP, granted i know it was measured in STD, with an aprox. 15% loss thru drivetrain, that would make about 370 at the flywheel. Even with 4% less for SAE that would still put me at 360.
Thanks MachOneThis, i just wanted to make sure my car's fuel system would be up to task for the new ported intake and heads that i will be having done soon!

The fuel pump can handle the additional fuel requirement with a nitrous wet system up to 125 shot (maybe a little more) but, it's the 24 lb fuel injectors that are limited to about 384 hp at the motor. The Machs 24 lb injectors would not be able to supply the fuel needed at WOT for an additional 125 hp N/A DOHC 4.6 modular motor. The 03 supercharged cobra comes with 39 lb. injectors which are capable of handling up to 624 hp at the motor.

I get the info about the fuel injector hp limits from the Sean Hyland book on 4.6l performance in the electronic fuel injection section. Here is a pic of the chart:

Thanks for the more exact explanation of why the fuel system (injectors) would need an upgrade. I couldn't remember why. Not at the SC, Turbo, Nos point yet. Maybe someday...

Hey Phil, thanks! That definitely tells me that i need to upgrade my injectors. Is that all i would need to upgrade? I'm supposed to go on Tues. for my work.

BTW, these guys wanted $2200 for ported and polished stock heads and bigger valves! Is it me or does that sound kinda high? Just curious. Thanks.

I know it is expensive but not sure how expensive, are you getting your intake ported also?

Yah, it all started out from me buying a BBK twin 65mm throttle body. Then i figured i should at least port match the intake opening to the TB, then i figured i might as well do the heads while i'm at it. One thing leads to another and another....

Does anyone know if i upgrade to 39lb injectors, how do i get the MAF re-calibrated? Is it done through our chips with a computer program?

Well, i decided to scrap porting the heads and use that money to beef up my axles and rear, and also buy some control arms. When i do decide to get the heads done, i will definitely call SRC.
