intake silencer

I've noticed the mach has a large trapezoidal shaped silencer grafted into the intake after the filter. Looks pretty flimzy and a candidate for pinhole leaks in the future, especially around the seams. The hookup portion looks to be about an inch or so.
Anybody know what would serve as a good plug after removing this piece? I suppose you could cut off a piece of dowl rod of the appropriate diameter, but that would be kind of rough. Give me your ideas. Thanks rmoskey torch red Mach 1.

I took ours off for $hits & grins and the Black plastic cap off a tube of Meguiars Scratch X fits pretty tight. So tight I couldn't get that silver metal strap to close. had to use fat tie-wrap. It's back on though, may end up getting someones '01 Cobra tube here soon...
