View Full Version : Brendon Howell doubts the Mach

One of my employees at work is a magazine/internet racer. The other day he made a comment on how he would never get a Mach because it's slow. I asked him on what basis did he come to this conclusion and he stated because THEY say it will only run low 14s to high 13s and because blah blah internet site says it's slow and somebody on some website or rag said the Mach runs out of steam after 2nd gear. Oh and when I tell him that stock Machs are touching the 12s I get "well 13s aren't really that fast" and then some rambling about the Mach didn't even make some crappy top 10 fastest cars list by some Schmo who probably hasn't even driven any of them. I know you all have somebody that you've run into that's like this so you can relate. No matter what you tell them they JUST DON'T GET IT.

I live and breath my Mach every day. I ordered my Mach back in October of 2002 before they had ever shipped one out yet. I've been a member on this site since the dawn of time. If there is one thing I should know, it's the Mach. Why someone who has never driven one let alone sat in one can judge the car based on a rag or a rag website is beyond me.

I've pointed him towards this site to get REAL info on the Mach from REAL people who own, eat, and breath them. The kind of people that when they park their car can't stop looking back and admiring it as they are walking away.

Now, what all you wonderful Machers can do for me is each post the statement "Brendon Howell is a magazine racer" (ad lib as you please) as I plan on showing him this thread in an effort to get my point across.

Keep the Mach movement going!!!

Anyone who thinks that running 13s is "not really that fast" is just plain uneducated. Very very few US made production musclecars have ever been faster than 13s in pure stock trim. Yes, there were a few, but very few. Many ran 14s.

Why should we care about the opinion of such an uneducated person? He obviously knows very little about performance cars.

Maybe a magazine racer, but he sounds like a rice driver. I get more 17 second rice telling me "that's not bad" when I show them the 12.900 time slip. Honestly, how is 12/13 seconds slow? Seems about like our mild built Windsor powered '69 Mach 1. Back in the day you could slice a 14.2 with a 428CJ. Now, we're running mid-high 13s all day with an aluminum headed small block Ford on street tires.

We're talking N/A power here too, guys. People just don't realize, you can't compare hand and hand factory stock N/A vs factory stock Forced Induction.

Don't worry about idiots like this.

REGARDING BRENDONS HOWELL'S COMMENTS, I DON'T KNOW WHAT HE IS BASING HIS INFORMATION ON, OR COMPARING HIS INFORMATION TOO. I CAN TELL YOU THE MACH-1 IS THE QUICKEST AND FASTEST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED. I AM IN MY LATER FORTIES, (I KNOW I'M OLD AS DIRT), I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF SAYING I OWNED SOME OF THE BEST MUSCLE CARS EVER BUILT. I OWNED A 1970 CHEVELLE SS 454, (LS6), IN STOCK FORM IT HAD OVER 450 HP AND 450 FT PDS OF TORQUE. IT RAN LOW TO MID 13'S AT 109MPH. I ALSO OWNED A 1970 SS CAMARO WITH THE L78 BIG BLOCK, WHICH HAD ALOT OF MODS, THE BEST I EVER RAN IT AT THE TRACK WAS 12.56 AT 110 MPH. THESE WERE THE BEST MUSCLE CARS EVER BUILT AND IMHO, THEY DON'T COMPARE TO THE MACH-1. THESE CARS GOT 4-5 MPG TOPPED AT 126 MPH, DID NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING, POWER STEERING ETC, ETC AND COULD NOT STOP OR CORNER. I'M NOT QUITE SURE WHAT MR. HOWELLS COMPLAINT IS, IT SOUNDS LIKE HE IS MAKING A STATEMENT ABOUT A SUBJECT HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT, JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION.

The mach 1 is not a slow car. Brendan should start driving instead of just reading, he'll learn. By far the most impressive mustang I've driven. Tell him to add up the total on the mods he spent on his ricer and then spend that amount on the mach, then race. He'll will never doubt you again. No. Race him stock and see if he still thinks low 13's are slow. On the track of course, which most ricers won't do. Nothing compares to the feel of american muscle.

Actually Brendon owns American cars. In the past few years he has owned an LS1 TA and a 2000 Mustang GT Vert (automatic). He currently drives a late 80s early 90s Chevy pickup.

What bothers me so much (and I know it really shouldn't, but when the honor of the Mach is questioned I must defend it) is that he HAS owned V8 American muscle, yet he's still ignorant to the Mach. Sort of like some of the LS1.com guys who say their cars are faster than ANY other even if they are stock.

This is great, keep the comments coming, I really can't wait to show him this thread at work.:smack: :headbang:

What a moron this Brendan is!!

So, if 13's aren't that fast, then I guess my Cobra is not that fast either. I should have bought a rice rocket, I guess.:concerned

Very interesting link. It's the kind of list he would look at and base all of his facts off of.

What's funny is it actually lists his Firebird Formula that he used to have (he said it was SOOOO fast) and it's just under the Mach. The MPH is a bit higher, but that's typical of those cars as the dig is where the Mach really rocks.

Cool, thanks for the link, more ammo for me. :eyebrows:

The list shows: 2005 Ford GT 5.4L V8 S/C 500 11.78 124.31 is faster than 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra 4.6L V8 S/C 390 12.8 113.2?

Holy crap is that right?

It's not a mustang. It is a GT 40 supercar.

Brendon who?

falcongtho3
07-03-2004, 08:15 AM
The list is out of date. The sales brochure for the Ford GT supercar is 550 hp, and I have it on good authority that much like our Mach 1's, that number is low. Figure 565-570 to be the real number.

I've never heard of this Brendan Howell, my best guess is that he is the child of Mr. and Mrs. Thurston Howell of Gilligans Island fame. No wonder they went on a doomed cruise...probably on purpose. He is obviously wanting to be the next Brock Yates...with all that entails. Once he is old enough to graduate from the video game world and magazine stand racing to the real world and non-pixel tracks, he is welcome to...BRING IT ON!:SMASH:
