I like the style of the VISUS, these don't look too bad....definately a different style.


It doesn't look too promising on delivery of them....been getting the run around and who knows if he is actually making them or not....plus all the back orders of previous people that have ordered over the last few months...

Anyway, I hate to be so whiney, but I'm torn between ABS and Alum. Astras.

The Alum. seems one "row" short on the Mach, plus someone posted on another thread saying that Astra-Hammond says they aren't a fit on our Machs.

Does anybody have a pic of Astra Alums installed on our rides?

If it looks good, I'm OK with it.

Either way, I'm in on an Astra group buy, just not sure whether it will be alum or ABS.

Does that help you, or does your GB have to be alum only? If so, sorry and disregard, at least until someone posts a pic showing a good fit on a Mach.

I tried doing a search on Astra-Hammond, but the don't have a website. Checked out the SFX website, boy do they make louvers for alot of different models. Kinda makes me wonder if they are model specific.

As someone stated above the aluminum ones does look like they don't come down as far as the abs. Which would be a huge factor for me. I would like the aluminum but now if they are that short.

I am interested I have been looking for louvers for a while now.

When I checked out the link that you posted it shows the same picture that can be found at cal-mustang.com under accesories (vehicle). They say it should fit the 1979-93 Mustang hatchbacks and the 1994-2004 Mustang coup. They have it priced at $225.99 plus S&H for a total of $253.11. I would deffinately need to know if it will fit the Mach before I jump in with both feet.
I really want louvers for my car. But they have to be right. No mickey mouse fit. If you can find out that they make them for the Mach I'm in for the buy.

They have the correct number of rows, whatever that may be. I'm comparing them to the '69/'70 slats. Never thought about warpage.

They may have the same amount of louvers as the older ones but the set on the car in the ad has a big gap at the bottom.The ones on you're car go all the way to the bottom ,and she is one sweet ride by the way.

I wish that was my car. I was just using that as an example of what the original slats looked like. I'ld still like to see what the aluminum ones look like on a '99+ car.

Still no pic of aluminum on a Mach...also Astra's have 8 fins where as Visus has only 6 fins...(Like Original Mach 1's) still waiting for pics from spoilers4less...

The one version of astras are plastic, they lay flatter against the window, therefore, you no trunk lid problems. The VISUS and ASTRA aluminum ones have the gap, becuase of the trunk lid clearances...I had the ASTRA ones on my '94 and on my wifes '99, they fit nice.

I remember on my 71 Mach' the bottom slat was almost flat against the window to clear the trunk lid...

i think the aluminum looks alot better than the plastic,the plastic fins look to thick.it makes the louver look cheap,thats just my opinion.

I have a question... what finish do these louvers have? The ABS louvers I had on my 1998 had what I would call a 'crinkle finish'. The plastic was textured.

Are these smooth or textured?

Right now, I'm in for ABS, but if spoliers4less gets us pix showing a good fit for Aluminium, I'll switch. One proviso: The group price with shipping (however we end up doing that) must really be lower than standard. Not sure how all that will shake out on this one.

I wrote Peg at spoliers4less an e-mail yesterday practically begging her to answer our fit/finish questions.

Now, I need to vent. I don't get the aftermarket people. In any other business, when you've got people literally lining up to buy a product, the vendor is responsive. First the Visus blowoff, and now radio silence on a simple question: Will it fit? Then, a group price that may be better, but after shipping, maybe not. Its a wonder they stay in business at all.

OK, Folks. Trying to shed some light on the fitment/appearance issues, I e-mailed Peg at spoilers4less. She was very responsive, and nice, and sent me a couple pix showing fitment of both ABS and Alum. on late-model 'stangs, although not Mach 1s. Below, I insert my outbound, and her reply, and the pix.

My e-mail to her:

Dear Peg:

At the risk of driving you nuts, I write (on behalf of myself and a bunch of other rabid Mach 1 nuts who inhabit the message boards ar Mach 1 registry.com) to see if it is going to be at all possible to see pictures of your Astra-Hammond aluminium louvers on a 2003-2004 Mach 1.

There are bunch of Mach 1 owners (including me) literally lined up to buy them, IF they fit and look good. That's a big IF, because, in the not very helpful photo from your website (not your fault, I know its from the manuf.), they look about one "row" short, and none of us want to take a chance on making our babies look ugly.

I seem to recall a post from someone who said you said that you had sold several to Mach 1 owners. And, yet, there is another copying an e-mail from Astra-Hammond themselves saying they are not a fit on the Mach 1s. That's how it is on the Internet. You never know . . . .

Is there any way you can help us with the fit/finish issues? If so, you will have lots of buyers, as the other source (Visus) is totally flaky, and does not seem to care about meeting demand or customer service.

Please help us out. It will most likely be worth your while.

Yes, I have sold these to several Mach I owners and have contacted one in particular that has promised me a photo. Unfortunately I have yet to see it. The manufacturer has sent me some photos that I can share with you, hopefully they will help.

It is disturbing to hear that you were given incorrect information supposedly from Astra-Hammond (found on the web at www.willpak.com) I have been working with their products since last year and have had a very good working relationship with them. I have also been in touch with them on this fitment issue and have been assured that they do fit the Mach I. The fact that our past sales of both the ABS and Aluminum louvers have NOT been returned attest to their honesty and knowledge of the product.

I wish that I could do more, but this is all I have for the moment.

Don't like that raised edge on the alum. Looks bulky and out of place. ABS looks sleeker and like it belongs.

I like how the Visus aluminum ones look from the rear, with the thin slats, but I like the way the ABS louvers follow the lines of the car and don't jut out from the side profile. Decisions, decisions.
