I bought a 02 GT earlier this year and I have a 03 Mach1 on order and I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the subject of buying the paint sealant. When I got the GT I was told that
because it was Torch Red I needed the after market sealant (which cost 625.00 with undercoating) or my paint would come off.
I got it and and I'm not happy at all with the job. Do I have to repeat this with the Mach 1????

Do what????? Your paint would come off???? Who told you that? The paint from the factory is supposed to last just fine. I wouldn't dare seal the paint on your Mach 1.

I had asked this question on the old board. The overwhelming response was no!!

I was told that the paint in newer cars has no lead in it and that
makes the paint much less durable, hence the sealant sales pitch.
I found the whole situation a load of crap considering what we
pay for these new cars.
Thanks for the advise on the new Mach1

Well, go back and tell that guy that all paint has been lead free since at least the sixties. Try and tell him that the skin on his head is lead free, and thus will fall off unless you seal it properly. Then cover his head with a plastic bag and shut it tight. :D

I'm by no means a paint expert, but isn't that the purpose of the "clearcoat"?

VAMach,Don't fall for that old line! That dealer just wants more money out of you.Just keep it clean and use a quality polish and wax on a regular basis and the finish will be fine.
