I've run my Mach at Irwindale's 1/8 mile track, but I really want to try my hand at a 1/4 mile. I believe the California Speedway (Fontana) is closest to my home in the San Gabriel Valley.

http://www.californiaspeedway.com/

Their website says that a helmet "...is required in all vehicles faster than 13.99 seconds. Helmet must meet SNELL 90 (effective Jan. 02) or better standards (must have label inside of helmet)."

I want to run at the next track date (Sat 1/10/04) but its not worth it to me to spend $$$ on a helmet for what will probably be my only 1/4 mile track day. I'd rather use the $$$ as part payment towards a nice cat-back system and settle for the 1/8 mile at Irwindale.

Anyone here run their Mach at Cal Speedway? Is a helmet requirement typical for most 1/4 mile tracks?

any runs at 1/4 mile tracks under 14 sec req a helmet. some tracks however allow more slack to the rules than others. but if your running lower than 13.5 a helmet is good idea anyway.

Irwindale requires u to have a helmet as well if u go under 8.500 on there 1/8 track.

Shop around

Id spent 250.00 for my helmet & soon enough my friend got it for 150.00 & its approved by the tracks.

If you are only gonna do it a couple of times then most good tracks that are weekend racer friendly will have helmets for you to rent for like $5 - $10.
