View Full Version : Car & Driver did the test on the Mach1 for Dec 02 Iussed

Will C/D did test on Mach1 vs 350Z and Honda 2000B , AudI TT

Out of four cars the Mach1 came in 2nd place behind the 350Z

 The MACH1 had 5.2 sec. 0-60 mph in the test and just 0.7sec. slower then the Cobra:THUMBSUP: but I'll feel the Mach1 should not be in this class of cars. it should be in the New GTO and the Chevy SS after next year. In test C/D did the Mach1 had two top tens in the test. 1st the engine had a top ten and the price of the Mach1 was a ten and rest was 8 or 7 in the test.

The highs in the test was the engine

The lows were the tires and the interior

The verdirct most go for the dough by far. What C/D said about the Mach1.

5.2???

What was the 2001 Cobra at for 0-60

and how about the '03 GT coupe???

Something ain't right here... these mags need better drivers...

TRMach1

Is that 5.2 or 5.02, there IS a difference. The Motor Trend test said 5.03 for 0-60 times.

Guess I'll be stopping at Barnes and Nobles' for MT and C&D tonight...

11-04-2002, 04:45 PM
Well i just checked SVT's site and they quote the '01 cobra at a 5.4 sec 0-60 time....

I guess 5.03-5.2 is a reasonable range of times for a mag to peg us at??? WE'll know for sure when some of our seasoned drag boys hit the 1/4 and bring back from timeslips.

I really think post a good break-in and a K&N and whatnot we'll see some sub 5.0 times... (COME-ON 4.8)

Motor Trend tested the Mach 1 as a 0-60 in 5.3 sec not 5.03
But I wish 5.03 was what it really was.

Thanks for that clarification Matt. Still, it looks like they improve a little with every test. MT was 5.3, C&D was a 5.2. Hell, by the time we go through Road and Track, Mustang Monthly, MM&FF, and Hot Rod, we'll be down to 4.9! I think it all comes down to what the weather is like and who's driving the car.

No kidding, just as long we eventually see the same 1/4 mile test numbers from Atlanta.

Holy crap, does that tach say a Redline of 6800!
Did they finally fix it?????

No 8000 rpm:D

Mustang Matt
11-04-2002, 06:37 PM
As long as it's not 5800.
The pic in Motor Trend still showed a 5800 redline.
Thanks Frank:)

No, they didn't say anything about that. 5.2 0-60 mph 1/4 the weight

is 3200 pounds. top speed for MACH1 IS 151MPH:D :D :D

11-04-2002, 07:14 PM
Frank, MUST YOU REPOST THE PICTURE EVERYTIME???

IT IS WHERE THE REDLINE STARTS, NOT THE END OF THE TACH, It should be around 7100-7200 RPM, if you look closely at it.

I know the Rev. Limiter is around 7200 RPM, so redline could be a bit lower, you might be right, around 6800?

Yes it does, don't hit speed bump at 25mph like I did in my GT it kills the motor hard part is finding the buttom for it.

NO I mean at a high RPM!!!!! The 01 GT shut of at 6300 I think it was.

Same thing on the Mach????

cobrajg
11-04-2002, 09:25 PM
Fuel cut should be for high speed, like 150-155. When I had my cobra on the dyno, he hit fuel cut at 155. You will be able to bounce the tach off the rev-limiter all you want, but I would not recommend it, should be 7000-7200. In my cobra I was shifting at 6800.

Great, now to camp out at my mailbox again for another dose of mis-information. All we have left now is R&T and Automobile and we'll have a full sweep of the 'major' magazines. OK, who's buying two issues of each? Be truthful...

I think I agree that it just doesn't seem to fit.

'REDLINE' IS 6,800 RPM

'REV LIMIT' IS 7200 RPM (also can be referred to as Fuel Cutoff)

I am still concerned about the Iron Block info...

Also... '02 Mach1... a V6 may be 3200 lbs...

a GT is 3330 (or so depending on Options)

Peace,

Dave

I know they do test for thier 0-60 times, but I'm wondering if Ford makes them use the advertized HP for print, as part of the agreement for letting them use the car? We all know that the stock cobra is in exess of 390, but all of the Mags still list it at that.
Any mag indsiders know why MT and C&D don't print Dyno results?

1MeanGT
11-06-2002, 01:32 PM
I think they pulled a 14.0 with the Mach 1. Is this right? If so, that is a piss poor time. Motor Trend pulled a 13.8, and that was bad. But keep in mind, these magazines are always a half second off, so that would normally mean 13.3-13.5 which is actually right on par with the times in Atlanta.

The Mach1 did (14.0@103 mph) 1/4 mile - (0-60 mph 5.2sec.)

Audi TT did (15.7@88 mph) 1/4 mile - (0-60 mph7.3sec.)

350Z did (14.3@ 100 mph) 1/4 mile - (0-60 mph 5.7sec.)

S2000 did (14.9@ 95 mph) 1/4 mile - (0-60 mph 6.3 sec.)

13.8 was bad enough but, 14.0!! They should be embarrassed. I know these aren't drag racing magazines, but still. Remember, these mags.listed a GT 5 sp. at 14.6 or 7. With a decent driver on stock tires, they can run high 13's.

14.0 at 103? Great trap speed, but that time is really bad! I went one time in my cobra and was getting 13.6x at 103-104 and was told that I should hit 13.3-13.4 with that trap speed. The **** IRS made launching a pain in the ***. This car should easily go 13.3-13.5 bone stock. Can't wait till spring!

Actually you're better off getting some drag radials than a K&N and whatnot if you want to speed up 0-60 time. These mags use stock tires for their testing, the wheelspin adds a few tenths of a second.

One has to wonder what their reaction time was too. The linkage may have been tight, tires worn, etc.

I have not had the displeasure of reading either the Motor Trend or the Car and Driver reviews yet, but they both seem to think that there is an engine in the Mach 1 other than the one that's supposed to be there! Motor Trend says it has an iron block, just like the 03 Cobra, and that ain't right. Car and Driver says that Ford basically resurrected the motor from the 1995 Cobra! WTF!! Everyone knows that in 95 the Cobra had a 5.0L Windsor, just like the GT! Do these morons even bother to find out what it is they are testing, or do they just pull it out of thier ***? What incompetence, it almost rivals Ford!!:SMASH:

The Mach1 redline is 6800 rpm with the fuel cutoff at 7050rpm, for manual cars. 5800 redline and 6850 fuel cutoff for autos.

P.S. fuel cutoff (as in the rev limiter) is not the same as the inertia switch!

Mach1_MI
11-09-2002, 10:00 PM
Julio, You are the closet so far! - the only correction being the fuel cutoff is 6250 for the auto.

Julio
