Wish I could have found the owner that was stupid enough to trade this car in... I would have giving them the "cash for clunker" price for it...

Guarantee that they got more then the cash for clunker pricing. The only reason they are on the list is because the owner traded in under the program thus getting the $4,500 from you and I.... I mean the gov.

Wow I don't think so. I had a 93' LT1 6 speed that went 13.0 bone stock on street tires. 12.7 on slicks. Was one of the nicest cars I ever had.

ok, they looked like suckass years. I did not like most of these although they did pave the way for what we have now. I just do not like them.

I really hate to meantion this, but what were the Mustang and Camaro numbers traded in?

Last year we had a 1988 4-cylinder Mustang that we used as our 24 Hours of LeMons race car and as a joke I looked it up in the clunker deal on line and it didn't qualifly. However all the 5.0 Mustangs would have qualified according to the chart.

The lt1 vette only made 300 hp, while the ZR1 made 405 hp and still only mustered a 13.2 in the 1/4. This is all flywheel hp too.

I'll try to dig up my 93-94 time slips. Was the lt1 tested a 6-speed. ZR-1's were a ***** to get down the strip. Maybe I can just drive the sh!t out of it. Funny we have 305 flywheel hp and guys have gone 13 flat stock. Hmmm...I believe our Machs are heavier also.

One thing to consider: we don't know what condition these vehicles were in. They could have had severe body damage, non-original parts, rusted out, etc etc and they still qualify under the Clunkers program. So they might not have been worth anything anymore...

Very true, however a guy in my local Mustang club works in the parts dept of a local Ford dealership. He said they took in a 1994 Mustang GTS 5.0 with 47,000 mile on the car as a clunker. He said the paint was a little faded but could have been buffed out easy. They poured the silicon cocktail into the oil and it ran about 4 minutes before dying. He said it nearly broke his heart to watch. :eyes:

Makes you wonder who would keep a car for 16 years and put only 47,000 miles on it and then not think twice about letting it get destroyed. On paper it probably wasn't worth more than 5 or 6 grand if they had sold it outright but come on.

On the flip side you know Ed Begley, Jr. would take $4500 for an Aston Martin to buy a Prius just to make a statement because he's an environmental nutjob. I'm sure he's not alone....

This is so true. In some other thread on here they had the picture of that Typhoon on the list, and it was a complete rust bucket.

If any vehicle traded in was worth significantly more than $4500, then the dealer would have bought it outright and resold it. Dealers don't pass up on opportunities to make a buck.
